Create coaching sessions that are high-energy, action-oriented, fast-paced, and fun.
Reds need a concrete goal, preferring to train for a specific event or activity. They find it boring to simply “stay in shape.” (In speaking to a Red, substitute the word training for exercise.)
Reds grasp information best in small doses—bulleted lists are effective.
Provide information that is specific and directive rather than theoretical.
Give immediate and continuous feed-back about what’s being done right (and wrong). Reds like to make corrections in the moment.
Incentives motivate Reds. Intermediate goals, such as small competitions, recognition, awards, and rewards work well. A favorite treat after a workout (even during a workout) is appreciated by this type.
Consider pairing Red clients with others at the same level for personal training. Fun competitions will be appreciated.
Surprise them with variety. A mix of activities and locations is appreciated. Weather permitting, suggest moving the training session outdoors.
Introduce Reds to other people at the gym to who are training in similar ways or have goals in common. Encourage a connection.
Reds easily socialize around physical activities. Put them high on your list to notify about special events and fun activities going on at the fitness center. Encourage them to bring along their friends.
Keep in Mind
Reds with Efficiency enjoy trainers who encourage and prepare them for friendly competition with others, and for winning.
Reds with Harmony appreciate supportive trainers who exhibit caring and encourage friendly camaraderie and enjoyable competition with others.
