Whites have a high need to feel comfort-able in a fitness facility. Give them a thorough tour of facility. Show them the equipment and various spaces to build familiarity.

Whites tend to set up their own fitness programs, after study and reflection. If they do consult a trainer, they’re looking for specific information. Trainers should communicate that they respect Whites independent approach.

When describing training principles and objectives, begin with an overview before going into details. The overview should address exercise in categories (flexibility, strength, cardio).

The only way Whites can use information is when they can organize it. Present it systematically, with no random tips, lessons, or suggestions. Stay with the plan. Whites don’t appreciate surprises.

Give them time; this type does not like to be rushed. Don’t pack too much into a session, but leave time for reflection.

With their intuitive nature, Whites readily see the mind/body/spirit connection. Explore this aspect in your communication and recommendations of indoor and outdoor activities.

Training sessions are viewed as work and Whites enjoy creating a routine. Don’t worry about making training sessions fun.

Consider planning sessions at off-peak times; Whites like calm and privacy and will likely appreciate a quieter space. Explain the predictable traffic flow of the facility so they can choose to exercise when crowds are down.

Your challenge as a trainer is to address Whites need for constant self-improvement while providing comfort in routines. For example, add intensity to familiar exercises.

Advance planning is important to Whites. Advise them as to changes in fitness schedules, disruptions in service, and other routine breakers. If their trusted trainer is leaving, assist in providing a transition to a new trainer.
