Greens are unlikely to engage a trainer without first having a clear-cut objective, such as preparing for an outdoor challenge that is important to them.
Create a formatted, practical plan. Don’t include anything extraneous that doesn’t contribute to their goal.
Hold them accountable, that’s why they hired you.
Assume that Greens will be training by themselves. Provide all information for self-sufficiency and preparedness.
Training outside is a favorite option. For example, you and your Green client might run up hills with a weighted back-pack in preparation for a climb they are training for.
Think outside the box. Greens will stay with a trainer longer if he/she can continually come up with new, preferably outdoor, activities that are fun, aligned with their goals.
Don’t talk too much.
Greens are not naturally comfortable in gyms or locker rooms. Encourage them to come dressed to train, and keep the emphasis off the gym’s amenities.
Respect their need for privacy. Don’t try to connect them with other members or pressure them to attend group events.
Provide additional information related to the outdoor challenges they are training for. For example, physiological changes under different altitudes, or simple gear recommendations.
Keep in Mind
Greens with Efficiency are minimalists and analytical. They enjoy a challenge and being held to a high standard by their trainer.
Greens with Harmony look for a trainer who provides the structure they don’t provide for themselves. That person must align with their personal values.
